Halloween Bat

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 204 Posts

This is a simple hand-held bat that will flap it's wings when you fly it. Black bat with wings spread.

Approximate Time: 20 minutes

Supplies:

  • black construction paper
  • cardboard (optional)
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • crayons, chalk, or paint
  • bath tissue size piece of cardboard tube
  • stapler

Instructions:

  1. If you would like to, you can make your own half-bat pattern on cardboard and then cut it out. I have included a photo of my pattern to give you the idea.
  2. Half bat pattern.

  3. Your other option is to freehand a half-bat. You fold the black paper in half and then draw the half-bat next to the fold in the paper. The fold represents the center of the bat's body.
  4. Cut out the bat and decorate it with crayons, chalk or paint. I tried fabric paint on mine, but the colors I chose didn't show up too well after the paint dried.

  6. Once the paint is dry (if you use crayons or chalk, there is obviously no drying time), staple the cardboard tube piece (at least a four inch length) to the underside of the bat.
  7. To make the bat fly and flap it's wings, hold it by the cardboard tube and move your hand up and down.
