Use websites like eBay to find and save money on Halloween costumes for your children. You can buy last year's costumes for much less than a new one. Just make sure the costume is in good shape and the right size for your child.

This is a great money saving idea but make sure it's machine washable and dryable. That means no plastics that would melt in the dryer. This is important because bed bugs (and lice) might be hiding in the costumes. Costumes are often very ornate and have all kinds of spaces where they can hide. The most effective way to kill them and their eggs is to wash in hot water then dry in the dryer.
Very importantly, once you get the costume home (or receive through the mail), isolate it by sealing it in a plastic bag. That way, nothing can get out until you wash it.
The same advice goes for all newly acquired clothes, whether from Macy's, the 2nd hand thrift store or friends. Even high end stores have been affected by bed bugs here in NYC.
What I normally did was quite simply buy after Halloween was over; and kept in boxes til the next year! 75 per cent off beats even used prices folks! Re bed bugs: I know that freezing items, in plastic bags for so many hours, kills mites, etc; would this not work also on bed bugs or lice?
